Location: Cedar Breaks National Monument

Overview:

Interns will develop and provide interpretive and educational programs on park natural and cultural resources to park visitors through a variety of interpretive techniques including formal stationary programs, guided walks, and hikes, as well as informal programming. These services will be provided outdoors in various weather conditions. Additionally, interns will operate a fee collection station providing pass sales and information for park visitors. Shifts will vary throughout the summer and will include working weekends, holidays, and occasionally at night.

Responsibilities:

Visitor Services intern positions may include some or all of the following responsibilities. Each park may have specific duties relevant to the park that are not listed here. Greet and orient park visitors. Answer visitor questions and conduct public presentations on natural and cultural resource significance. Provide safety and regulatory information, conduct interpretive talks and guided walks while developing an in-depth knowledge of the park’s geology, history, plants, and wildlife. Work outdoors, standing or walking for long periods of time. Interns may collect fees, and account for funds received.

Qualifications:

This position requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to work with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds (public experience helpful). Excellent writing skills, knowledge or interest in regional geology, native tribes, ecology, history, etc. are essential for this position. The successful candidate should be excited about public lands and have a desire for knowledge of the natural world.
